It will see the Civil Defence unit provide paramedic-level medical cover.
Laois Civil Defence will provide paramedic-level medical cover as part of a new pilot scheme.
It joins units in Kilkenny and Wexford in the programme, which will be trialled for a six-month period.
Under the scheme, qualified volunteers would be able to administer medications up to and inclusive of paramedic level.
Civil Defence Units already provide cover at community and sporting events.
Once the pilot is complete, the programme will be reviewed with the aim of agreeing a national strategy and potential expansion across other Local Authorities.
