Laois Community Meeting To Coordinate Objections To IPAS Centre Plans

A number of appeals have been made to An Bord Pleanála.

A community campaigning against two IPAS centres in Laois will be holding an information meeting to help objectors register their observations on the plans online.

Laois County Council is granting approval for the conversion of both Peadar's and Lennon's Bar on Durrow's Mary Street into accommodation for international protection applicants.

It comes amid widespread opposition from people living in the town, with many objectors saying the town lacked the capacity for the arrival of refugees.

A number of appeals have been lodged to An Bord Pleanala, and an information meeting will soon be held on how to respond in a co-ordinated way.

Gerard Lally from Durrow Community Group says he expects the government TDs in Laois to pressure the Justice Minister on the issue:
