Laois Councillor Calls For Traveller Action Group To Address Cemetery Brawl

Councillor Caroline Dwane Stanley feels the community needs to have their voices heard.

A Laois Councillor is calling on a traveller action group in the county to speak out following violent clashes at a cemetery over the weekend.   

Caroline Dwane Stanley believes the community needs to have its voice heard after Garda public order units were called in to 
the annual 'blessing of the graves' at St Peter and Paul's Cemetery on the Stradbally Road in Portlaoise on Sunday. 

Up to 50 people were involved in the brawl which involved knives and saw two people were injured.   

The Independent rep says people were left terrified in the graveyard: 

The chair of the cemetery says they're actively working to ensure better safety measures on its grounds.
