Laois Councillor Concerned About Future Grain Imports

War in Ukraine is driving up the cost of importing wheat.

Fine Gael is calling for the flour milling industry to be revived - as traditional millers are dying off. 

Laois County Councillors are calling on the Department of Agriculture to find ways to support wheat producers so they can produce more homegrown products.  

Councillor and former grain producer PJ Kelly says the price of imports are increasing due to the war in Ukraine and alternatives should be considered.

He says workers in the industry are warning  that flour could become scarce in this country:
