A Laois eye clinic is being reinstated and is expected to open within the next three months.
Councillor Caroline Dwane Stanley is confirming the long awaited service will be based at the Treo Nua Centre on Harpurs Lane, Portlaoise, following talks with the HSE.
People in the area have had to travel to Athlone for appointments in recent years, causing significant disruption for families across the county.
