Permission was refused on December 30th.
Plans for a large solar farm on the Laois/Kildare border have been refused by Laois County Council.
The proposed 149-acre development near Portarlington would have partially surrounded the protected Kilmullen House.
Council planners raised concerns about impacts on bats, habitat loss and potential effects on the River Barrow and River Nore Special Area of Conservation.
They also cited inadequate assessment of impacts on architectural heritage and road safety on the R420.
Planning permission for the Laois section of the project was formally refused on December 30th, 2025.
