The current STEM project has been extended to the end of June.
Laois County Council is currently seeking new funding sources for the STEM officer position.
In a statement to Midlands 103, the local authority says the role within all four counties in the Midlands has been funded through the EU Just Transition Fund.
The project had been due to conclude in March of this year, with the STEM project extended to the end of June
Proposals to continue the programme have been sent to the Department of Community Development.
The council says work is continuing with educational partners to source alternative funding for future programmes.
