Laois County Council has cleared up a dumping area after residents claimed of a rat infestation.
The vermin had been swarming a transit van full of rubbish, which was left next to Oriel House and Wilton House in Portarlington.
Locals, who reported catching up to eight rats in less than 10 days, say the area is now spotless.
They are also thanking Kieran Lambert, from Lambert Pest Control, for coming to their aid yesterday after hearing their plight on Midlands 103.
