Laois/Offaly Chief Super Confident New Cycling Laws Will Work

They came into effect at midnight last night.

People must understand they share the road with cyclists and work to make it a safer place for everyone. 

That's the view of Laois/Offaly Garda Chief Superintendent John Scanlon who believes new laws on dangerous overtaking of cyclists will make a significant difference to road safety.

From midnight last night, a driver will now receive 3 penalty points and a fine of €120 if they're found guilty of the offence.

He says the application of the law will be straightforward:
