SLT positions have remained vacant in the region for over three years.
Speech and Language Therapy services in Laois and Offaly have moved "beyond crisis point".
That's according to Offaly Independent TD Carol Nolan who is confirming the HSE has told her the region’s single whole-time-equivalent SLT post has remained vacant since May 2023, despite repeated attempts to recruit through existing panels.
The HSE is also confirming there is currently no clear timeframe for resolving the vacancy, as filling the post remains entirely dependent on the availability of candidates on existing panels and their willingness to accept the role.
