Laois Priest Calls For Rule Changes To Attract People To Join Clergy

The Catholic Church has no future in Ireland without an absolute change in attitude.

That's the stark warning from Laois' Father Paddy Byrne, who says were facing a serious shortage of priests in the years ahead.

The 46 year old parish priest of Abbeyleix, Ballinakill and Ballyroan is the second youngest priest in the Diocese of Kildare and Leighlin.

He believes the current rules around clergy need to be relaxed:
