Avril Deegan was diagnosed with lukaemia at five years old, and went into remission two years later.
The Cullohill woman studied psychology in college, and now works as a funded PhD researcher in Breakthrough Cancer Research at DCU.
Her focus is on the transition back into everyday life for childhood cancer patients post-treatment.
