The selection of an independent chairperson is proving to be a stumbling block.
There's growing frustration in Laois as the first Community Safety Partnership meeting has still not taken place a year on.
It was meant to replace the Joint Policing Commission, with the last meeting in the county held twelve months ago.
It will have a similar setup of local councillors, TD's, Gardai and community groups coming together to tackle local safety issues and will be chaired by an independent chairperson.
Laois County Council has been told by the Department of Justice the current process for choosing chairs is legally problematic.
