The average processing time is six weeks.
Appeals on disability and carers allowance should not be taking up to a year to be reviewed.
That's according to Independent TD for Laois Brian Stanley who is challenging the Social Protection Minister to reduce delays on reviewing payments.
The department states that their average processing time for 80% of applications for both grants is currently at six weeks.
