A Laois TD is urging the Government to consider increasing the number of cost rental homes being constructed.
Independent rep Brian Stanley says the cost of rent in his county is up by 12.1% from last year and homelessness figures are up by 60%.
A 2% cap on annual rent increases is set to come into effect on March 1st as part of changes to rental law in Ireland.
