A local businessman feels the issue should be dealt with more sensitively.

An Offaly businessman is describing a letter from the county council regarding the payment of commercial rates as "demanding" and "offensive".

All non-essential businesses remain closed due to the coronavirus crisis and are suffering a dramatic fall in revenue.

Clive Clarke from Ashgate Butchers in Dunkerrin says he will pay his commercial fees as usual, but feels the local authority should be more sensitive towards struggling business people.

He found, not just the timing, but the wording of the most recent letter particularly offensive:
