Lidl Appeals Refusal Of Proposed Midlands Store

Planning permission was refused last month.

Lidl Ireland is lodging an appeal against Roscommon County Council's decision to refuse planning permission for a new midlands store.

The supermarket chain submitted plans for a single-storey discount supermarket, a café/restaurant and "plaza areas" in Monksland, Athlone.

The local authority refused the application last month, citing its non-compliance with the local area plan.

In a statement to Midlands 103, Lidl says it remains "committed to opening a new store in the Monksland and wider Athlone area".

Statement in full:

"Lidl Ireland can confirm it has appealed Roscommon County Council's decision and remains committed to opening a new store in the Monksland and wider Athlone area, bringing Lidl's market-leading quality and value to shoppers in the community as soon as possible."
