There has been a slight fall in the number of people signing on the live register.

The seasonally adjusted figure was down 700 to 184,700 in January, when compared to the previous month.

The number of people signing on in the midlands in January has dropped by nearly 100.

10,678 people signed on in January, compared to 10,761 in December,

4,268 of those are in Westmeath, 3,264 in Offaly and 3,146 in Laois.

However, when compared to January 2020, there has been an increase of 1,000 people on the live register.
