A new report from the EPA has found the Westmeath lake was among the top bodies of water in the country last year, while Esker in Banagher was also categorised in the highest quality.
Lough Ennell, near Mullingar, is continuing to rebound after being labelled poor from 2018 to 2020, and was in the good water quality category again in 2023.
97% of sites tested for bathing water quality met or exceeded the minimum standard last year.
