Major €33.2m Investment Announced For The Midlands

120 different projects are being supported across the country.

The Minister for Housing is announcing a €409 million funding package to revitalise towns and cities across the country.

With almost 120 projects across every local authority in the State, the new government investment will fund transformative town and city regeneration projects including the redevelopment of vacant or underused sites.

€33.2 million heading towards Laois, Offaly and Westmeath.

€15.3 million is going to Westmeath, €10.3 million to Offaly and €7.6 million in Laois.

A new development will see €7.5 million invested in the Fort Museum and Event Centre in Portlaoise to create a new community, arts and culture space in the town centre.

Fianna Fail Laois TD Sean Fleming says this is a big boost for the town of Portlaoise:

Portlaoise The Fort Museum and Event Centre Cat 1B €7.5m 

Offaly County Council: 

Tullamore Kilcruttin Railway Lands - Options Viability and Masterplan Cat 1A €150,000 

Tullamore Tullamore Civic Quarter Options Viability Appraisal and Masterplan  Cat 1A €150,000 

Tullamore Harbour Street Urban Regeneration  Cat 1B €1.4m

Tullamore O’Connor Square to Church Street/Market Square Link and Church Street/Patrick Street urban street enhancement. Cat 1B €8.6m

Westmeath County Council:

Athlone Athlone Tourism and Cultural Quarter Phase 1 Cat 1A €150,000 

Athlone Athlone Riverside Cultural and Public Realm Regeneration project Cat 1B €7.5m 

Mullingar Mullingar Southwestern Quadrant (MSWQ) Regeneration Framework/Priority Area Plan Cat 1A €150,000 

Mullingar Blackhall Place Regeneration Project Cat 1B €7.5m
