It's taking place across all acute public hospitals in Ireland.
The largest survey of it's kind is underway in Midlands Hospitals.
The sixth National Inpatient Experience Survey is in progress in Tullamore, Portlaoise and Mullingar Hospitals and all acute public hospitals across the country over the month of May.
This joint initiative by HIQA, the HSE and the Department of Health is asking people who have spent 24hrs or more in a public hospital for their views on the care they received.
Clare Conway, Quality and Patient Safety Manager in Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore, says ' It is really valuable to us as a hospital that we understand what we are doing well and more importantly, where we can improve.'
