A man in his 20s was injured during the alleged incident.
A man has been arrested following an alleged assault in Westmeath.
The alleged incident occurred in Mullingar on Tuesday afternoon, at around 1pm.
A man in his 20s sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the course of the incident, and was taken to Regional Hospital Mullingar for treatment.
Another man, also in his 20s, was later arrested and charged to appear before a sitting of Mullingar District Court.
Gardaí are continuing to investigate the matter, and are asking anyone with information, or camera or dashcam footage, to get in touch with Mullingar Garda Station on (044) 938 4000.
