The man in his 20s was arrested on Monday morning, and was being detained in Mullingar Garda Station.
The body of 65-year-old Stefan Nivelles Posschier was found at his home in Rattin, Westmeath on Tuesday, October 25th.
He was violently assaulted and died as a result of his injuries.
Gardaí say their investigation into Stefan's murder is ongoing.
