A man in his 70s has been arrested after a woman's body was discovered in Portlaoise today.
A man in his seventies has been arrested after a woman was found dead at a house in County Laois earlier today.
The woman, who was in her fifties, died following what Gardaí are treating as a fatal assault at a home on Church Street in Portlaoise shortly after 12.30pm this afternoon.
The man remains in Garda custody and the scene is currently preserved for technical examination.
Gardai are appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage from the area between 11am and 1pm to come forward.
