The incident happened earlier this month.
A man will appear in Portlaoise District Court this morning following the hijacking and theft of a car.
The incident happened just after 3pm on Sunday May 15th in Monasterevin when a man forced his way into the vehicle and attacked a passenger before driving off.
The car was recovered and following a number of lines of enquiry, Gardai arrested a man in his 30s yesterday.
He was taken to Kildare Garda Station and charged under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
