Brian Stanley left the party in controversial and acrimonious circumstances.
Sinn Féin has selected its general election candidate in Laois, following the departure of Brian Stanley.
Maria McCormack was selected by the party last night.
She failed to secure a seat in the Portlaoise area in June's local elections.
Deputy Stanley last week confirmed he will contest the general election as an Independent.
He resigned as a member of Sinn Féin last month, saying he was subject to a flawed internal complaints procedure.
