A permanent monument is being set up at the Tonduff Cillín site in Abbeyleix.
A Laois community is hosting a memorial mass today for babies buried in unmarked graves.
Tonduff Cillín, a historic burial site for unbaptised infants near Abbeyleix will be the location of the ceremony to honour and acknowledged the babies buried there.
Laois's Noel Burke says there is plans for a permanent monument in recognition of these forgotten lives.
Babies who passed away before baptism were traditionally buried on unconsecrated ground.
The Abbeyleix man says from his own experience the infants weren't allowed to have any prayers said for them:
