The motion does not carry legal force.
Members of the European Parliament have voted to ban the export of alumina to Russia.
The motion is non-binding, but increases pressure on Ireland and the European Commission to act in relation to Aughinish Alumina.
The government says it will assess its options once a Department of Enterprise review into the County Limerick plant and its exports to Russia is complete.
