Irish Water is appealing to people to conserve water.
The midlands biggest town is in danger of water shortages this summer.
Irish Water says their biggest supply concern in the region is in Portlaoise and the surrounding areas, with the wells failing to recharge as high as anticipated over the winter.
Irish Water engineer, John Gavin says emergency works are now underway, and they hope to avoid imposing any water restrictions:
