Kafe U in Clara says the business is no longer viable, as a result of the increased vat rate, as well as hikes in the price in labour and food.
Owners Ken and Ultan took to Facebook to say goodbye to their staff and customers, and to thank them for all the memories in the year and a half the cafe has been operating in the town.
They're also inviting anyone with a voucher, to make use of them at the Athlone branch.
