A midlands councillor says she has received death threats and abuse following comments she made about the social housing system.

During a monthly meeting of Laois County Council, Fine Gael's Aisling Moran said the housing system was being abused by 'people who have never worked a day in their lives.'

She says she received several phone calls from irate constituents, who believed she was targeting them.

But, Councillor Moran says her comments were directed at people who choose not to work:
