Laois TD Sean Fleming believes work still needs to be done.
The Chair of the Oireachtas Infrastructure Committee is giving credit to local authorities in the Midlands for keeping ahead on land zoning for houses.
The committee is set to meet this afternoon with the County and City Management Association on the issue.
It follows a report by the body submitted to the Committee, that states 11 local authorities have not yet started a public consultation on the issue.
