Local authorities in the Midlands are to meet next week with the Department of Justice over proposed community safety partnerships.
Joint Policing Committees were abolished in counties last April in order to set up these new formats.
However, they were delayed due to the upcoming local elections in June last year and the concerns around the legality of an independent chair.
Next week's meeting aims to give the official go-ahead in setting up these partnerships.
