Almost one in eight Deputies are male.
A midlands TD is warning that women will turn away from politics if all they hear about are stories of abuse.
It comes as female deputies raised the spread of hate, intimidation and harassment against women in a meeting with the Ceann Comhairle yesterday.
Longford Westmeath TD Sorca Clarke says that with 77% of the Dáil and 74% of councillors being men, Ireland needs more, not less female representation.
