Midlands Health Region Losing Financial Independence

The Public Expenditure Minister is taking spending powers away from a number of regions.

The health service in the Midlands is about to lose its financial autonomy.

The Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers has told the Irish Times overspends in four HSE regions were unacceptable.

Reports indicate the regions set to lose their spending powers are Dublin and Midlands, West and North West, the South West, and Dublin South East.

Earlier this year, the Dublin and Midlands region was one of three placed in what is referred to as "tier three escalation", bringing employment controls and heightened scrutiny on spending.
