Midlands Homelessness On The Rise

340 people in Laois, Offaly, Longford, and Westmeath are being classified as homeless.

The number of people accesssing emergency accommodation in the Midlands increased by 2% in the space of four weeks.

340 adults and children were classified as homeless in the month of May by the Department of Housing, up from 333 the previous month.

Nationally, there were 17,447 people in emergency accommodation, down by 101 on April's record breaking figure.

Adults make up more than two thirds of the total, with Dublin remaining the most acutely affected area.
