Tullamore recorded the highest figure in the midlands.

Midlands hospitals recorded over 1,100 incidents of aggression or violence over the past three years.

New figures from The Journal Investigates show that Tullamore recorded the highest number in the region at 453.

Mullingar follows at just under 400 overall and Portlaoise Regional Hospital has seen 273.

Overall, just under 20,000 incidents were recorded in hospitals across the country with the biggest number taking place in emergency departments.
