Tributes Are Being Paid To Midlands Judge Who Passed Away This Week

He presided over the midlands circuit during a career spanning four decades. 

A midlands judge, who passed away this week, is being described as one of the most colourful men to sit on the bench in recent times. 

John Neilan presided over proceedings in Athlone, Mullingar, Tullamore and Longford during a career spanning four decades. 

He will be laid to rest on Saturday morning following mass at the Sacred Heart Church in Roscommon town. 

Former midlands courts reporter Liam Horan has been recalling some of Judge Neilan's colourful moments in the courtroom.
