Midlands Man Accused Of €200k Multi-Victim Fraud Appears In Court

Bright Banda is accused of 12 counts of deception.

A Midlands man has appeared in court accused of defrauding five people out of over €200,000.

39 year old Bright Banda of Meadow Lane, Roscommon Road, Athlone in Roscommon is facing charges for 12 counts of deception at addresses in Westmeath, Longford, Roscommon, and Dublin.

The alleged incidents took place between February 2023 and January 2026.

The Malawi national was initially charged with four counts of inducing a woman to transfer a total of €17,000 in 2023. 

He was then served with an additional eight charges concerning the same woman and four other alleged victims.

Over the course of a two week period in early 2025, Mr Bamba allegedly induced man at an address in Athlone to transfer €3,000.

A third victim in Roscommon transferred €1,500 through Revolut.

Two further charges relate to a fourth person, alleging Mr Bamba duped a man out of more than €15,000 at a property in Ballymahon in 2024.

The two final charges relate to a fifth victim where the accused allegedly deceived a woman out of over €35,000 at an address in Dublin.

Judge Deirdre Gearty remanded Mr Bamba in custody with consent to bail ahead of a book of evidence being served at Athlone District Court on the 3rd of June.
