Midlands Man Facing Trial Over Alleged Hammer Attack

The incident is alleged to have taken place in Irishtown at the start of May.

A Westmeath man is being accused of assaulting another man with a hammer in a Midlands town, according to the Irish Independent.

54 year old Aodain Nea is charged with assault with intent to cause bodily harm, he's being charged with violent disorder with two co-accused, and for producing a hammer capable of inflicting serious injury.

The incident is alleged to have taken place at the Irishtown Service Station, Irishtown, Mullingar on May 1st.

Gardaí told Mullingar District Court directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions allowed for the Mr Nea to proceed to the Circuit Criminal Court on a signed guilty plea should one come at any stage.

The accused is being remanded on bail before returning to court on September 24th.
