Offaly MEP Barry Cowen thinks the 15% tariff deal means avoiding a trade war with the US.

A Midlands MEP is coming out in favour of the EU - US trade deal agreed earlier this week.

Offaly's Barry Cowen believes the avoidance of a trade war with the United States is very good news.

Irish exports to America will now be tagged with 15 per cent tariff - although an arrangement for the pharmaceutical sector has yet to be confirmed.

Mr Cowen wants the focus moved on to what can be done to prepare for the impact of the deal:
