He feels there's no time to lose.
The Minister for the Office of Public Works is calling on the Taoiseach to allow work on flood defences in Westmeath to resume.
Eight flood gates have already been installed in Athlone, under the Flood Alleviation Scheme, but another 14 are due to be built by the end of the year.
However, due to the coronavirus pandemic, construction has been put on hold.
Minister Kevin 'Boxer' Moran is asking for the work to be deemed 'essential' and to be granted permission to continue.
He says we'll face further flooding later this year, if this project isn't completed quickly:
