74 buildings will have to be removed from the site of the former VASA facility in Laois.
Plans for the demolition of the majority of a former mink factory in the midlands have been granted planning permission.
Laois County Council has given the green light for the removal of 74 buildings at the VASA facility in Ballymanus, Stradbally.
The facility closed last year after mink farming was banned with almost immediate effect with the introduction of the Animal Health and Welfare and Forestry Bill.
VASA Ltd says it will be using what few buildings it can for cattle farming.
As part of the demolition, asbestos will need to be disposed of from the roof of the existing buildings.
The local authority granted planning permission subject to 20 conditions.
