Midlands New Car Registrations Fall By 18% In August Compared To 2019

Still over 3,000 cars were registered in Laois, Offaly and Westmeath.

New car registrations in the midlands last month were down 18 per cent on for the same period of last year.

3,273 cars were registered in the region in August, most of those coming in Westmeath.

Overall, registrations so far this year are down almost 30 per cent on the same period in 2019, according to the Society of the Irish Motor Industry.

The group says with Brexit and Covid-19,  new car sales will continue at recession levels and is calling for a significant reduction in Vehicle Registration Tax.
