Midlands Primary Schools Honoured With 2026 Curious Minds Awards

16 midlands schools are being recognised.

Primary schools across the midlands are receiving Research Ireland Curious Minds Awards for 2026.

Eight schools are being celebrated in Laois, with five schools recognised in Westmeath and three in Offaly.

The Curious Minds Awards celebrate schools that embrace practical, inquiry-led approaches to teaching science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

There was seven schools awarded Gold, with one school receiving Platinum for their efforts in Laois, with each school in Westmeath and Offaly securing Gold awards. 

Schools recognised in Laois:

  • Ardlios N.S, Ardlios (Gold Award)

  • Ballinakill Mixed N.S, Ballinakill (Gold Award)

  • Camross N.S., Camross (Gold Award)

  • Naomh Padraig N.S, Doire Liaim (Gold Award

  • Scoil An Chroí Ró Naofa, Athy (Gold Award)

  • Scoil Eoin Phóil Ll Naofa, Ballroan (Gold Award)

  • Scoil Mhuire Fatima, Tigh Mochua (Gold Award)

  • Scoil Fionntáin Naofa, Shanahoe (Platinum Award)     

 

Schools recognised in Westmeath:

  • Coralstown N.S, Coralstown (Gold Award)

  • Scoil Mhuire an Chuil (Gold Award)

  • St Mary's Primary School, Athlone (Gold Award)

  • St Oliver Plunkett Boys N.S, Moate (Gold Award)

  • St Peter's N.S, Athlone (Gold Award)     

 

Schools recognised in Offaly:

  • Geashill National School (Gold Award)
  • Schinchill National School (Gold Award)
  • St. Kieran's National School (Gold Award)
