Residents in Athlone are being reassured that disruptions during a road closure will be kept to a minimum.
Westmath Fianna Fáil Councillor Aengus O'Rourke says there was a constructive meeting between locals, the council and the OPW over the Carrick O Brien Road closing for flood defence works.
The local authority says the road will close on Monday but will re-open for the St Patrick's Day bank holiday weekend.
Councillor O'Rourke says unfortunately those living on the road will have a 16 mile detour, when the road is closed, but they have done what they can to minimise the impact:
