Westmeath's Paul Daly says it was a serious lapse of judgement.
A Midlands Senator says he's truly sorry for attending the Oireachtas Golf Society event at a hotel in Galway attended by 80 others.
Westmeath's Paul Daly attended the event in the Station House Hotel, Clifden on Wednesday night.
He says with the changes to public health advice he should not have done so.
The Fianna Fail member admits that as a public representative it was a serious lapse of judgement on his part and says he is truly sorry.
He is apologising unreservedly for the upset he caused.
Gardaí have confirmed they are investigating the alleged breach of the Health Act 1947 at the event.
The Agriculture Minister Dara Calleary, who was also at the event, has resigned after breaking Covid 19 guidelines.
The Taoiseach has accepted his resignation and says it was wrong and an error of judgement.
Michael Martin also believes the event should not have gone ahead.
Minister Calleary says his attendance has underminded the government's efforts to tackle Covid 19.
I attended the event in the Station House Hotel, Clifden. With the changes to public health advice I should not have done so. As a public representative it was a serious lapse of judgement on my part and I am truly sorry. I apologise unreservedly for the upset I have caused.
