Midlands TD Calls For Student Grant Income Threshold To Be Doubled

She says the current criteria is leaving some students with no choice but to drop out.

The current SUSI grant criteria is forcing some students to drop out of a college, according to a midlands TD.

Carol Nolan is among those calling for reform of the system, to reflect the rising cost of living.

The independent Laois-Offaly TD thinks the current income threshold of 4,500 euro - which hasn't been adjusted since 2016 - should be doubled.

Deputy Nolan - who sits on the Oireachtas Education Committee - feels it's unfair to deny students who are working financial assistance:
