Midlands TDs Named Among Largest Farmland Owners In Leinster House

Government TDs Peter Burke and Willie Aird are the top 10 when it comes to landholdings.

Two government Midlands TDs have among the largest farmlands in Leinster House.

The Irish Times is reporting that across Leinster House 36 Deputies and Senators declared themselves as farmers or having interests in farming.

Laois rep Willie Aird has land in the county totalling 196 acres, he sits behind only the Agri Minister Martin Heydon for the size of his landholding.

The Fine Geal TD has 100 dairy cows and his land is worth around 2.3 million euro.

Deputy Aird received over 56 thousand euro in CAP payments over three years.

Seventh in the list is the Enterprise Minister and Longford Westmeath TD Peter Burke.

He has an estimated 110 acres worth 780 thousand euro and has picked up 14 thousand euro in CAP payments across two years from 2022.

The Minister has a herd of about 35 suckler cows.

Other TDs that feature high on the list include both Micheal Healy-Rae and Danny Healy Rae, along with Meath East rep Gillian Toole and Fianna Fail's Cathal Crowe.
