A new report is painting a mixed picture when it comes the management of local authority social housing in the Midlands.
Laois has one of the lowest vacancy rates in the country at just 1.13% of its housing stock, according to the National Oversight and Audit Commission.
The figure is 1.77% in both Offaly and Westmeath.
The local authority in Offaly has added the lowest number of social housing units as a percentage of their opening 2025 figure at 0.72% , or 16 units.
Longford is the next lowest at 0.74%
Nationally, more than €300 million was spent maintaining local authority social housing last year.
